Sex is one of the triyopastambas and is important for reproduction so that life sustains and continues.
Impotence is the failure of a man to achieve or maintain an erection. It is also called as erectile dysfunction, lack of sexual desire and the inability to ejaculate or have an orgasm and is more common in older men. Sometimes the term 'impotence' is also used when a man can have an erection but cannot ejaculate semen.
Impotence is sometimes used to describe female sexual dysfunction, which includes the broad categories of reduced sexual desire, pain during sex, inability to become aroused, and inability to have an orgasm.
Types of Impotence
Arteriogenic – Where the arteries supplying blood to the penis do not bring in enough blood to cause an erection.
Venogenic –Where the veins of penis leak blood and prevent the development of a rigid erection.
Neurogenic – Many things can go wrong with the nerve supply to the penis. Injuries to the back especially if they involve the vertebral column and the spinal cord cn cause impotence.
Endochrinologic – This occurs when there is an imbalance or insufficiency of sex hormones in the blood stream.
Psychogenic – This occurs when there is no organic factor and the problem lies purely in mind especially stress, anxiety and depression.
